The OECD is pleased to announce the 6th Meeting of OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth, hosted by Philippe Close, Mayor of Brussels (Belgium) and chaired by Dagur Eggertsson, Mayor of Reykjavik (Iceland) will take place on 13 June 2023, 14:00 – 18:00 CET in Brussels as part of the Brussels Urban Summit 2023: Urban Answers to Global Challenges.
Since 2016, the OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative has been at the forefront of the global debate on inequalities to shape a more inclusive future in cities. From the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic to war in Europe, a series of unprecedented shocks are confronting our cities and threatening the foundations of inclusive growth. At the same time, cities are facing multiple structural challenges, ranging from housing affordability to a net-zero and just transition, digitalisation, and rebuilding trust in democracy.
How can mayors reinvent themselves to address the most pressing issues while building resilience and opportunities for all in the short, medium, and long term?
During this closed-door meeting of the OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth, city leaders will discuss how to navigate the cost-of-living and improve housing affordability to drive more inclusive economic growth. It is open to all Champion Mayors and will result in the endorsement of a co-designed outcome document reflecting members’ new commitments to reinforce the foundation of inclusive growth in cities.

The cost of living in cities across the world is climbing quickly. The problem has been amplified by a housing crisis that is already stretching household budgets thin. The OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth are taking action to address these issues. The OECD #BetterUrbanHousing campaign showcases some of the most impacting solutions implemented in cities to shape a more affordable, equitable and resilient urban future.
